What We Provide

Horwich Community Centre

A centre for use by the whole community at an affordable price. Please visit the special Community Centre page on this site.

Christmas Lighting Scheme

Decorative scheme that really brightens up the town centre. Don’t miss the lighting of the Civic Christmas Tree and carol service that takes place at the roundabout near the Crown Hotel at 6 pm on the first Friday in December.

Sponsorship & Grants

The Town Council is a sponsor of on-road events such as Horwich Festival of Racing and also supports Horwich Heritage, as well as providing small grants to a wide variety of voluntary, community, supporting & sporting organisations three times a year. There are also youth grants available to benefit 0 to 25 year olds, as well as help available to pay for accommodation at Horwich Community Centre.

You can download the grant application form below.

Environment

The Council funds the spring and summer planting of the town centre flower troughs and also supplies dog waste bags free of charge to local dog owners, available from Horwich Community Centre. The Council also funds winter gritting in the hillier parts of Horwich.

Boundary Signage

Pride in our town is very important. The Town Council has provided distinctive pictorial boundary signs to welcome residents and visitors to our boundaries.

Public Benches

The ‘celebration benches’ outside of the Public Hall were specially designed to reflect our history and surroundings – look out for the tribute to our past railway and cotton industries, and the red rose of Lancashire and the tower on Rivington Pike.

Civic Award

the Horwich Civic Award is given to people who have given great service over many years to the people of Horwich. The awards are made every two years and the next civic medals will be awarded in 2025.

You can download the nomination form below.

Past Civic Awards

Civic Plaques

Distinctive green commemorative plaques, forming a Heritage Trail, have been placed on buildings with either a historical significance or an association with a prominent citizen. The Council will be adding to these in 2024, chosen from a list of sites nominated by the public.

You can download a nomination form here:

Town Mayor

The Town Mayor is always kept really busy – opening shows and exhibitions, visiting our schools and churches and congratulating local couples celebrating their Golden, Diamond or Platinum wedding anniversaries or even helping to celebrate 100th birthdays!

Remembrance Sunday Parade and Service

The Town Council pays for the band and sound system, working with the Horwich branch of the Royal British Legion, producing the order of service sheets for the Service of Remembrance and publicity.

Planning

Horwich Town Council has opted to be consulted about all planning applications in the Parish of Horwich (the whole of Horwich & part of Lostock). Members of the public affected by applications and applicants are welcome to attend the monthly meeting of the Planning Committee and may speak against or in support of an application. The Town Council’s recommendation is then passed to Bolton Council for the final decision to be made, either by Planning Officers or Planning Committee.

Website

www.howich.gov.uk is our much acclaimed website full of interesting facts and information about our busy town for both residents and visitors, attractively presented to draw people to visit.
