Sport and Recreation

Horwich is fortunate to be surrounded by countryside which provides ample opportunity for a variety of outdoor activities including walking, cycling, fell racing, fishing, horse riding & water sports. There are also facilities for golfing, bowling & other sports in the town. Horwich now has a new state of the art Fitness and Leisure Centre which has replaced the former Leisure Centre.

In addition to Old Station Park there are various children’s playgrounds in the town including Green Lane, Cedar Avenue Village Green and playing fields at Scholes Bank.

Horwich is well served by the Middlebrook Retail and Leisure Park on the edge of the town which developed following the building of the then Reebok Stadium, now Macron Stadium the home of Bolton Wanderers football club. As well as the many retail outlets there is a multi-screen cinema, ten pin bowling centre along with Bolton Arena which has facilities including a conference centre, fitness suite and track and all weather pitches.

Horwich Festival of Racing takes place in June every year and attracts both international and national competitors as well as providing the opportunity for local cyclists and runners of all ages to take part. Horwich Town Council is a major sponsor of this event. Visit horwichfestivalofracing.co.uk for further information.
